Duke College Football Update

David Cutcliffe made a clever coaching decision by quickly announcing Sunday that Thad Lewis would be his starter for this week’s showdown against the Kansas Jayhawks.

However I have only one dilemma with the way Cutcliffe went about this. It essentially is such a trivial factor and I hesitated to even bring it up, however felt bound to do it.

Cutcliffe indicated Lewis was one of a quantity of players who had gotten the flu and sat out in practice time.

If you tell me Lewis is a hero, I am okay with that, largely because I do not have a choice and you might care less what my belief is. Although there’s furthermore the fact that you’re the head coach/qb guru and recognize more than I will ever identify regarding that position.

There is no need to tell me Lewis is not one hundred percent.

He clearly said he did not want to cause a qb controversy, however, as the majority of people understand, quarterback controversies nine times out of 10 are created by fans and news organizations, not personnel.

If a quarterback debate manifests as a result of Renfree’s nice performance and Lewis’ not so good play then cope with it if the questions turn up.

While I agree with his decision and swiftness of it he can have opened up a small door for criticism of his starter.

If Lewis does not play well at Kansas then Cutcliffe will definitely be hit with questions regarding whether or not Lewis is one hundred percent and if he is not, why isn’t Renfree playing in the game?.

So for the coach’s well being I hope Lewis steps up and is victorious or has a great game, because the last issue Duke needs right now in the wake of the great motivator of besting Army is a debate.

Simply ask Coach K if you are looking for a second opinion. He has had to cope with one or 2 of situations like this one.
