Even if Mario is ten years older, a very good case can be made for Sonic when it comes to the title of "Most Popular Video Game Character" in all the time! Consider the "Tale of the Tape":

Sega Sonic is a blue anthropomorphic (changes shape) hedgehog with the ability run faster than the speed of sound, his talent for speed as much of the game in the series. He is 15 years. Sonic has been described as "like the wind. "He is known for being heroic, adventurous and full of life. He enjoys relaxation, but it is never to rest against injustice. He is extremely caring, and he deliberately endangering others, taking all the challenges facing it without hesitation. Throughout his 15 years of existence, Sonic has never been associated with any work, he is still collecting jewelry, so access to fund is not a problem for him.

Nintendo's Mario, now at the venerable age of 25 years is rather a "George Foreman type "Mario is always presented as a kind, shy and brave heroes. It helps those in need without hesitation. Despite its status as a great hero, Mario is very humble. His jovial personality and zest for life make him a very approachable person video game. He also love pasta and pizza, as the stereotypical Italian does. Mario is supposed to be a plumber by trade, but in all his years, I do not remember it never work on any of "plumbing" jobs, but still in business "rescue" to save the princess "or fungi kingdoms from large "Dino" animal type.

Based on these descriptions, it seems they have more in common than one might initially think.

Sonic Speed is his biggest asset in a game with Mario while those of Mario and his huge jumping ability and Mario also carries a big hammer. Maybe this should be a "Steel Cage" match? LOL

Mario counters with his experience and "jumping ability" which would the factor I think in this battle, as he continues to trample on the head of Sonic. Now to fail "game":

After reviewing the story "above the band" is my conclusion that the winner of a competition between these two monsters would Mario by Knock Out. I believe that perseverance and endurance would wear Sonic Sonic and get an advantage (speed) without value.
